Project Spotlight: kellyrimmer.com
It’s been a while since I shared a design project with you! And this is one I actually completed a little earlier in the year before the summer break. It’s a website for the prolific, bestselling Australian author Kelly Rimmer, and was honestly one of the most fun projects I’ve worked on to date. I’m really pleased with how this one turned out too!
Find out more about the project…
The Brief
Kelly Rimmer is the author of more than ten contemporary and historical fiction novels, and has been published in more than 20 languages. She’s also a New York Times and USA Today bestseller.
Unsurprisingly, Kelly already had a website up and running, hosted on Wordpress, but she wasn’t keen on the way it looked, finding it a little too sterile and unengaging. She was also frustrated that certain elements kept breaking (this is why I don’t recommend Wordpress for your website folks!).
Kelly wanted something simple and modern to replace her Wordpress site, that was easy to navigate and had all the information her readers needed at their fingertips. She also wanted to focus on using rich, warm colours to draw visitors in, and to complement her many different covers.
Kelly was also certain that she didn’t want anything animated or fussy on the site - the watchword really was ‘simplicity’. And so we used a backdrop palette of aubergines, golds and teals to delineate each section.
Font-wise, Kelly was keen on having a unified look throughout, so we used Lato - a clean, contemporary font, with the added interest of Arno Pro used solely as an accent for Kelly’s testimonials.

The Post-launch Q&A
Before working with Charlotte Duckworth Studio, when it came to my website I felt …
Like it was sterile, unengaging and frustrating as the links were always broken.
What fears or hesitations did you have before deciding to work with Charlotte Duckworth Studio?
I was worried we would invest in redesigning the website and I would still not like it.
How do you expect your new site to change things for you?
I feel the site is a lot more professional and fitting with my brand essence. I am certainly more confident in directing readers there as I am so proud of the finished product.
For someone on the fence about working with Charlotte Duckworth Studio, what would you say to them?
I cannot express how simple, easy and enjoyable this website redesign has been. Charlotte was an absolute delight to work with. Her confidence and knowledge in design choices and Squarespace was invaluable. Don’t hesitate. Her services were more than worth the investment I spent. I now have a fully functioning website that is easy to update and exactly what I wanted from the start.
How do you feel about your completed website?
I love it!
Is there anything you were really hoping would be included in your website design package? If you could add another item to the package, what would it be?
No. The package was everything we needed.
Is there anything you feel could have been done to improve your experience?
No. The two week design block is just the BEST idea. Having that deadline really moved us along.
Would you recommend Charlotte Duckworth Studio to a friend who also needed to build a site for their creative business?
Without hesitation.
